MAGUINDANAO - The first anniversary is nearing of the failure of the peace talks between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in August 2008. The break down of negotiations had led to renewed fighting among the MILF and the Philippine Army. While neither the Philippine Government nor the MILF have shown serious efforts to renew their negotiations, the people in Maguindanao once more raise their voices to call for an end to the war.

Among them those who are most affected by the fighting, the “Bakwits”, the Internally Displaced People of whom many still live in camps, often under poorest conditions.

PECOJON reporter Richel Umel documents Maguindanaos Bakwit Power.
