Cambodian Newspapers in Phnom Penh | "Media Reporting on Democratic Governance" Training in Cooperation with the Cambodian Center for Independent Media, Phnom Penh May 25/26,2010
“Reporting of issues on democratic governance is actually reporting about corruption,” Karlon Rama, PECOJON trainer and facilitator of the Training on Media Reporting on Democratic Governance explained in one of the sessions. The role of the media goes beyond informing the public of the issues that shape their lives but also requires journalists to provide spaces for an informed and inclusive public debate as well as serve as an outlet for the voices and perspectives of citizens.
The training held in Siem Reap last May 25-26, 2010 was attended by 32 Cambodian journalists from various journalists' associations,

radio reporters/ producers/presenters, newspaper journalists, media personnel of NGOs and freelance journalists. The training in Siem Reap was one of three of a series of trainings planned by CCIM for this year. The objective of the training is to strengthen the capacity of the Cambodian journalists for high quality journalism in Cambodia and increase their commitment to fully exercising independent journalism in Cambodian society, the organizers further said. Other trainings include investigative journalism/reporting and media reporting on social accountability issues.
The training is being funded by the British Embassy in Cambodia and the European Union Delegation to Cambodia. PECOJON cooperates with CCIM since November 2009 and provides specialized trainers for this training program. |
