The Peace and Conflict Journalism Network PECOJON has once again visited Mindanao to conduct series of trainings and seminars about Peace and Conflict Journalism. At least twenty five journalists from different places in Mindanao converged in Malasag Eco-Tourism Village, Cagayan de Oro City which lasted for three days of rigid trainings and workshops in handling conflicts and its journalistic aspects. Several trainings were already being conducted by PECOJON in the different parts of the Philippines and now it’s on their third time here in Mindanao. It must be remembered that PECOJON's first Mindanao training was held in Zamboanga City and followed by Davao City. This is being done in order to enhance the journalists' capacity to cover events in a more truthful and responsible way of reporting.

The three day training on Peace and Conflict Journalism includes the basic task of journalists to report conflict issues in a sensitive way, discussing the core questions what to report, how to report and what is the role of the journalist in the conflict? It also provides guidelines for selecting news stories and furthermore defines the character of news stories from Peace and Conflict Focused Journalism to War and Violence Focused Journalism.Cagayan Training_03

Journalist and a veteran conflict journalist who covered conflict issues of the Middle-East, especially the Palestine and Israel conflict. Koop is the international coordinator of PECOJON. The organization is planning to conduct its next training on Peace and Conflict Journalism, in December 1-4,2006, again using Cagayan De Oro as venue.
