PECOJON Conducts Peace and Conflict Sensitive Journalism Training

Zamboanga City - The Peace and Conflict Journalism Network (PECOJON) conducted a 3-day peace and conflict sensitive journalism training 2 at La Vista Monte Resort here on March 16-19, 2007.

The training that was attended by 20 journalists coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao was held in a mountain resort some 24 kilometers away from downtown Zamboanga City and it was the 2nd training attended by the journalists.

  PECOJON International Coordinator (INTERCO) Antonia Koop, a German journalist was the resource speaker of the three-day training together with PECOJON National Coordinator (NATCO) Jean Lee C. Patindol.

 For three days, journalists coming from broadcast, TV, online and the print were being lectured how to present news on PECOJON perspective especially that the tri-media can mold and unmold, can make and unmake a person or can influence the course of wars and conflicts.

 PECOJON started in 2004 at Bacolod City, fast grew into an International network and now with members in 15 countries around the world.

 The training in Cagayan de Oro last November 2007 was funded by InWent - Capacity Building International - Germany represented by Grace Mendiola, Asst. Program Officer. The follow up training in Zamboanga was supported by the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), InWent - Germany. Trainings are organized by Ledrolen (LenLen) Manriquez, Chief of Operations (CO) National Secretariat; PECOJON Philippines.
