Peace and Conflict Journalism Training 1
November 17-20,2006, Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

In cooperation with InWent, PECOJON Philippines conducts trainings on conflict reporting for journalists in war and conflict regions. The last “Peace and Conflict Journalism Training 1” for this year will be held November 17-20 in Cagayan d’Oro, Mindanao.

Focusing on improving the security situation of Philippine journalists through capacity building the course equips journalists with skills of conflict analysis and transformation and introduces strategies of a conflict sensitive reporting..
One of the biggest challenges journalists face is the reporting of war and conflict situations. Media creates the battlefield of modern conflicts. The journalists’ voice decides how conflict parties are seen: as victims or perpetrators, as suffering human beings or as the incarnate evil. By "just reporting the facts" media strongly influences the course of events.
Especially in a situation of deterioration of press freedom the “Peace and Conflict Journalism Training” offers journalists a an improved set of tools to maintain high quality and integrity in their daily reporting.
The National Secretariat still accepts applications until November 5.
