PECOJON trainers are the role models of a new breed of journalists, the manifestation of the values and ideals of the network and the inspiration of next generations. Mastery as a trainer is not reached in a single training but takes practice and experience. Therefore this Trainers Training is just the beginning of a larger process. For those who successfully complete the first course a series of trainings follows in which the future trainers have the chance to slowly grow into their tasks. Becoming a PECOJON trainer is not a one week holiday trip. It is a decision. And we take your decision serious. Applicants are required to: • Be fully committed to the process of becoming PECOJON trainers; • Have a solid journalism education; • Have at least 3 years of journalism practice or teaching experience (preferably both); • Are committed to the ideals and values of the PECOJON network; • Are at least 25 years old and have a valid passport and an NBI clearance; • Have completed PJ 1 and 2. Applicants are further expected to: • Have stable health and can stand situations of high demand (stress); • Be flexible and willing to adjust to varying circumstances; • Be able to connect and relate to different kinds of people from all background; • Be willing to work hard, independently, patiently and in humble conditions. You should not apply if you expect:
• To become rich and famous; • To travel without having to work; • To be hosted only in beautiful hotels and resorts; • To be pampered and comforted. You should further refrain from applying if: • Your physical or mental health is not stable enough to stand high demand situations (stress); • You are afraid of public speaking; • You don’t want to get your hands dirty; • Your schedule or work load doesn’t allow any further activities. If you do not fulfill all requirements but still feel this is what you are meant to do, please contact the National Secretariat and discuss your concerns. In special cases and if an applicant is strongly committed the secretariat might be able to make an exception. Application ProcessOut of the number of applicants a maximum of 8 participants are chosen. The participants will be invited to attend the Trainers Training (PJ3) which will be conducted March 7-14, 2008 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, PhilippinesThe course serves as training and assessment. Those who will successfully complete the course and convince the trainers of their talent and commitment will be informed about the next steps at the end of the course. Please fill up the following forms: • application form; • medical fact sheet; • waiver; • reference form filled up by two PECOJON members • and complete the questionnaire.
